Bluefin Stout by Shipyard Brewing

For most of you stout lovers you know the creamy malty taste with a little kick that makes a stout, well Shipyard covers that without a doubt.

It pours very thick and dark, almost black. A small head forms with maybe a little too much carbonation. Visible carbonation can be seen around the head in the form of bubbles raising the sides of the glass after the pour.

Raising the glass to just under my nose you get hints of a strong brewed coffee, a touch of burnt coffee, and along with an ever present rich malty smell.

The first taste of blue fin is a dry smooth creamy malty taste followed by a bold strong coffee or espresso flavor. After a few drinks the flavor turns bitter probably from roasted hops and malts during the brewing process. The bitterness grows with each drink.

Well Shipyard has made a decent beer with the Bluefin Stout. It is very drinkable beer. Since it is a fairly low of carbonation and lower alcohol content it quite easy to drink more than on of these. One odd thing about this beer is after having a couple of these I experienced that the later beers were nowhere near as tasty as the first couple.

Verdict: 4 of 6
