Good Gourd

By Cigar City Brewing

Here’s another seasonal brew, this time I went with a Florida beer since I’m in Florida after all.

Good Gourd pours a very cloudy rust orange color with a bone white head of a half inch or so. As the beer settles it is a beautiful orange color almost of that of a pumpkin.

Good Gourd smells of that of a great pumpkin pie with nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, spices and of course pumpkin. After taking a breather I go back in for another smell and this time I get some other subtle hints of almost a candy to the sweet smell of fruit like maybe strawberry.

This a smell that is so go you can almost taste it.

Good Gourd at first taste is a plethora of flavor with all the pumpkin pie flavors coming in strong right from the beginning. Then on next drink you get more of a cinnamon with a touch more sweetness from the pumpkins with a bit of spice lingering in the end.

This is a magical blend of flavors that has got my attention and for someone that doesn’t like flavored beers, I love this one.

If there was a beer to signify the season Good Gourd would be the beer. This is an orange syrupy sweet beer that has that has all the fixings of a great piece of pumpkin pie with a touch more sweetness all in a beer.

You can’t make a much better pumpkin beer than Good Gourd.

Update: not sure if this is available other than in restaurants and bars on tap in Florida, I have yet to see this in a store, but if you lucky enough you might find it on tap.

Verdict: 6 of 6

This one did good. I’m not a huge seasonal ale fan. I don’t mind a summer or winter brew (usually a lighter for summer heavier for winter with some spice) but flavored ales berry or pumpkin never hit their mark for me.
