GTA5 Review

RockStar Entertainment

Well after about a week and a half of playing GTA 5, I decided it was time to enter the debate! All we have heard was the bad and not much good about the game. The people who have reviewed the game are divided 50-50 good to bad.

We heard early on that if we played this game we were all good candidates to go on a psycho rampage. Well I don’t plan on doing that anytime soon or for every for that matter, and I even played the game!

We all have seen this in the media going apeshit or something to make up news and in the process scare some old women. We already know that there scared of technology so let’s scare them more over nothing. Now back on topic.

GTA5 has much improved graphics and a much more persistent world that seems to be alive just as a real city has people moving going around as they please, it’s truly amazing. I watch a guy get hit by a car and watched an ambulance show and take them away.

As I started writing this review there are plenty of reason to give this a great, like some other reviews have the main difference is I actually played the game and wasn’t force feed the wishes of a corporate empire over my review and how it was written. And then, at the same time there are some reasons to give this a poorer score than I originally anticipated it would receive. Why, you might ask? Well there are things just like the other previous version of the game that are not really improved at all.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this game, but let’s get to it, I have rambled enough.

GTA5 has several different modes to control the via the PS3 control, I won’t go into them all find one you like and use it. For me this was one of the most difficult things in-game. I had an extremely difficult time finding a control setting that I could use thanks to all the PC gaming that I do I have been spoiled with keyboards controls that work.

No matter what controller setting you do use they are very touchy and takes some time to get used to them.

This games storyline revolves around three separate storylines, so as you play you will learn 3 different stories. The stories are well done and I actually really wanted to help these people as the game progressed.

As the game open you are introduced to Franklin an inner city kid who grew up on the wrong side of the law, but has recently intended to change that by going legit. Without a whole lot of explaining needed he is good at stealing cars, so he goes to work for a high-end dealer of cars and using his talents to return cars from people who defaulted on their loans.

As the GTA5 story moves on we next meet Michael. Michael is on witness protection after a bank heist. Now Michael is trying to get even with people who did him wrong.  His story is really the fun part of the game as the story moves on he adds Franklin to his list of helpers and then an old friends shows up.

Trevor is a whack job who worked with Michael during the bank heist and he figured out the Michael is out operating again and he wants a cut of the profits.

I won’t give out the ending to this story because it is fun as heck to get to that point, all I will say is you will be surprised as the story plays out.

Some other things to do in-game (mini games) are playing the stock market, go to the movies, strip clubs, go to a bar, fly a plane, Hunt for Bigfoot, play tennis, fly a blimp, go hunting, gun range, jet ski, compete in a triathlon, play golf, scuba dive, take the dog for a walk, sky diving, ride a roller coaster, climb the famous VineWood sign, ride a cable car, visit a place similar to the playboy mansion, Vinewood has streets covered with stars like in Hollywood. This is all that I have found so far so there could be more.

So if you don’t like the game there is plenty of things in-game to poke around in.

What can we say the graphics in GTA5 are gorgeous. There is nothing that I have found so far in-game that wasn’t up to snuff in the graphics department.

The sounds in GTA5 at just as they would be in real life, I love the excellent selection of music over the many radio station choices. The sheer amount of sounds and music in GTA5 is a virtual library of sound and music that is put together very well and top-notch.

Is GTA5 the greatest game of this generation of games, well some people would argue that it is, but I wouldn’t want to get into that one with the fan boys.

Don’t get me wrong GTA5 is a great game but for me there was more hype than new content. You could play GTA4 and get the exact same experience as nothing really has changed in the way that game play, new city same game play with more mini games and that’s all.

The one thing that you can count on in GTA5 and RockStar Entertainment is that everything works, there are very little in the way of bugs, the game is well polished at least on the PS3 version that I used for this review.

GTA5 is rated mature because it can be violent if you want it to be that way, you can do what you want to do, obey the traffic lights or just blow right through them. This is not a game for kids this would be and R rated to X rated movie, so use your best judgement on who see this content.

Overall GTA5 is a fun game, that’s has very well written story lines that make you feel like to are actually accomplishing something. The open world freedom lets you play the way that you want to play which is very nice, I like to get a car and just go sightseeing around town. The story can be completed fairly fast but if you do what I do and explore the game it will still be worth it for the exploring part of the game.

GTA5 is a roller coaster ride where there are some points you have overwhelmed senses where  you cant wait to get to the next part of the storyline, and then it has parts where you say that was it, why did they cop-out there?

To be honest GTA 5 is what you make of it and that your actions in-game change the games out come. I will continue playing GTA5 and really want to play online with friends once the online patch is pushed out in a few days.

Verdict 5 of 6

It will buy either a PS3 or xbox to play this on – would you recommend one over the other? I used to have a 360 but it died a couple of years ago

I would think both the PS3 and Xbox versions are very similar, I played on the PS3 without problem

I heard the PS3 version may be more stable as there was an issue with the Xbox version when you install the second disc. That said if you previously owned a 360 you might as well buy a new one so you can play your old games on it.

Great review. I agree with your assessment in whole. I have not played GTA since vice city years ago. If 4 is just as good as 5 I will definitely try it out. I am a little disappointed about some of the rail-like feel of some of the content but overall it’s amazing. The mission where Trevor is killing what feels like a gillion clowns after talking to an activist was a trip. O.O Any tips on finding a sub…that’d be greaat. 🙂

I definitely agree there was a lot of hype that didn’t live up to all the perfect ratings it got, but I enjoyed it way more than 4. The flying is abysmal though, I feel like I’m constantly fighting the controls and I hate every time I have to fly somewhere.

Brett, you are so right it is fun and I love playing it, but some of the controls really blow!

Go to the bar, then a movie, visit a strip club and then search for Bigfoot. Sounds like a wonderful day.

I just finished GTA V and I have got to say its probably one of the best story modes I’ve played.

The story left me satisfied but wanting so much more.

Time to start the GTA VI rumors yet??

@Matt GTA VI will feature three women Katie, Catalina and Mona Lott. They are gonna be Bad@$$ characters, that take down Trevor Philiips inc. LOL because he went mainstream!

    Thank you Chris,

I have set up a crew. Not sure if I will use that or join another. It depends on whether anyone joins it or not.

The story mode was amazing. I only have a couple of mini missions to finish… like killing the aliens… Online is so much more challenging. The cops can be relentless and if you steal a car and they see you, they know. you get an immediate 1 star. robbing stores is a trip O.O OMG…..if you have a mic, yell at the clerk!
