Guild Leader

Dealing with inner guild drama.

The question that was asked a few days ago was how you deal with fighting and squabbling in your guild?

If you have been a guild leader for any length of time I’m sure that you have dealt with some sort of drama during that time, if not you might have just got lucky. It’s just a matter of time that an incident pops up.

Drama?

Well I have seen a lot of this from girlfriend/boyfriend break ups, the occasional theft of a guild items, people just fighting to fight, pointing fingers after a bad raid, and whatever else you can think of. There is no handbook to resolve arguments, there is no magic bullet to get rid of things like this.

You need to keep an open mind a lot of time and don’t be afraid to ask a few questions, we need to get to the bottom of this. Its pretty normal for us to argue and ask why did you do that, hell I do it all the time.

As a guild leader you need to be able to listen first, then react once you have all the facts you need to make a decision. Resolving inner guild problems should be pretty easy, you all know each other and you know how they will react to what you might say.

Sometimes I think of myself as a babysitter more than a guild leader.

Does it seem like everyone is dropping everything on you all at once, yes this happens a lot. Remember to delegate some of these issues when you are burdened with a lot of work.

I can’t sit here and tell you how to solve all of guild problems, but I can say is you need resolve them as fast as possible, before things get out of hand. That isn’t just these types of issues it pretty much all guild issues that you have. Try to resolve them fast, it makes you look like a more competent leader.

Remember when you were a kid in grade school and you get into a fight or pushing match and the theater separated you from the other person, sometimes you have to do that and people will get over it with time.

Now I don’t mean to rush to conclusion and rush judgment. Make sure you get the whole story before doing anything rash.  There isn’t a guild that doesn’t have its problems, just a lot of guild that don’t have a leader that can handle them.

Guild Leader is a weekly series by Beer and Joysticks .com and written by Chris Gillis covering all aspects of being a better guild leader. If you have any questions or comments we welcome them below this article.
