Have you ever been so frustrated in game that you quit playing?

Whether it is way overly complex or void of all challenge has a game ever frustrated you so much that you just quit and never went back down that road again?

My friend the quitter!

A friend of mine is an avid gamer mostly hack and slash and some real time strategy games, but nothing ever what I would say as complex. He decided that he really wanted to play a space based game and so he decided to pick up EVE online.

As he opened the game he found himself completely overwhelmed and after a 5-6 hours of pure frustration he deleted EVE from his system.

To me EVE is a complex game, so what overly complex but it a cool game to play if you have the time. You will need more time than the average game out to get good at. I don’t have the time to dedicate to game like this ant more of I might be playing this still.

I’m a quitter!

I can actually can say I have quit a game because of frustration the only game of note that I can think of is Star Wars Galaxies (SWG), because of complete lack mismanagement of Developer Company Sony Online.

When Sony rolled out the “New Game Experience” for SWG that was the last straw as the populous left the game in droves. All that from not listening to your player base, should have just set fire to the server it would have been a much faster and honorable death of the game.

Sony demise of SWG can from a completely un-calculated change to all basic game mechanics, without or very little information about the process that was coming to the game. I can understand quitting a game that isn’t fun anymore and that is actually what happened to this game.

So today I ask you, have you ever quit a game because of frustration?

Oh man, have I! I’m currently working on finishing the games I have on my backlog list. It currently has 27 titles on it. (I’ve completed 6 so far.) When I first created the list, it had 36 titles on it. Some of the 9 games that I removed were removed because they just weren’t that fun. But several of them were quite enjoyable until I reached a section that I just couldn’t get past, no matter what I did. Game over after game over after game over. I wanted to hurl my controller or handheld out the window!

I’m currently playing Shin Megami Tensei IV. It’s one of the few SMT games that I’m actually going to finish because although it’s hard, I haven’t gotten straight up Megaten’d/cockblocked. (I apologize for the profanity, but that’s really what SMT games do to you…)

Quitting MMO’s out of frustration is slightly more complicated, I think, mostly because there are a lot more factors involved when deciding whether or not to continue playing. Questions like, “Is there a monthly fee?” or “Are my friends still actively playing?” can override other in-game frustrations such as crappy community behavior or something. I think I tend to quit MMO’s more often because I’m bored, rather than frustrated.

Ive got a lot of game in my back log also, it seems like you never catch up.

Playing MMO’S alone can be very boring, the community plays a big part in them for me to carry on.

Oh yeah! I quit games if they are too hard, even if I just bought them. If they irritate me, then I’m not playing them.

Battlefield 3. I had it on console, the premium edition. I loved it. I even liked their story, which was a poorly executed afterthought, but I liked it. I used to play multiplayer, when the new game modes were out it was cool, you could have tank specific matches, or air craft specific matches. In the end I quit the game for good and deleted the 10GB worth of data for it.

Multiplayer grew frustrating. I was at one stage, good, I could fly a jet well, even managed to completely max it out. I only met a few people who could fly better than me in my server travels. (Sounds arrogant, just honest)Helicoters were a weak point at first but I even managed to get good with them, and the battle tanks… First thing I maxed, could often keep one alive for an entire match and snipe people with them too..

In the end I quit, because stupid things became an issue, they released the shortcut packs, and suddenly anyone could get in a jet and fly it like a pro with their heat seekers and ECM jammers they didn’t actually earn. Stingers became seemingly standard, and just got to the point of utter rediculousness. Tactics such as ‘jihad jeeping’ (strapping C4 all over the front of a jeep, driving into a tank and bailing out so it rolls into the tank then exploding the C4) and jet ramming/crashing just became the most common things. The multiplayer completely lost its luster. You couldn’t drive a tank without having a jet crashed into your face. You couldn’t get 30 seconds air time in any aircraft before you were pegged by a million stingers. You couldn’t drive a tank without having a jeep blow you up.

This essentially rendered every single vehicle 99.9% useless. When you take the vehicles out of battlefield which is essentially what happened, it just becomes COD with more running and no kill streaks. If I wanted to play COD, I would play COD. So in my frustration, I quit the game, for good. Have recently sold my xbox and switched to pc.
