Maintenance Period=Waiting in Vain

Should some online games compensate us during maintenance and upgrades?  I was thinking about this since we are paying a few bucks in order to play some of these games in a limited time frame.  One of the games that I knew can be played unlimited for 5 days if you are willing to pay for the right amount.  But what happens during maintenance, you have to wait an hour or two before you can resume your game.  In the end you lose 2 hours of gaming time due to some circumstances you cannot control.

But the game moderators are explaining that these are vital to the system in order for you to play the game more smoothly and get the best gaming experience that they can offer.  Yeah, I do agree to them that all system has to undergo a maintenance but the fact is, the players have already paid to play the game, every minute counts for some of the players.  I understand that this matter is out of your hand and you can do nothing about it, but how about a reasonable compensation for the time we lost?

A browser type game has already implemented compensation during their maintenance period.  During this time, they are offering you to play their other games and when the maintenance is done, you can found a nice stack of gold and something you can use to improve your character.   I mean gold is not that valuable in the game but it’s a lot better compared to other games that just ignore you after the long hours of waiting.  We are not asking too much from them, as I’ve said just simple things to show that they really care for their netizens are enough for us to ignore the time we lost.

Ever heard of the extended maintenance period?  This could take from 3 hours to 6 hours of waiting time.  Some of us are taking the game seriously and are racing to be on top of the food chain, and those types of players cannot afford 6 hours of server downtime.  Most especially if their servers are down while the others are working, what’s going to happen to their server during the cross-server war?

I am not making this a huge issue, but wouldn’t it be fair for you to just give us the right amount of compensation?  Some games are doing it, and you might want to join the bandwagon.  Few simple things to show that you valued the loyalty of your players though we are well aware that you won’t be sincere in doing this stuff.

I agree. As a programmer, it’s easy to see they set a clock and track your play through a variable and end the game when your time is used up. They could easily set a clock to track the maintenance time and globally add that time back to players playing by the hour or block of time.
