Last time I promised you that I am going to write a step by step process on how to play your favorite PS2 games on your PC and how to configure it in order to remove the slow frames. Unlike the previous article where I presented you with different types of emulators, this time I would only guide you on installing 1 emulator. PCSX2 is what most people are using in order for them to play games that are designed for PS2. Again we remind you that this thing is only legal if you possess the original console and game CD. Make sure to follow the steps careful cause this is a little bit tricky compare to installing and configuring PS1 emulators.
May I remind you that I am not a techy guy, I am just a guy who knows how to follow the instructions.
1. Download and Extract [gsdx-sse2r 4600] using 7zip.
2. Download the BIOS [Lilypad r-4600] and extract to the BIOS folder.
Note: This is a nice BIOS but some games need a different BIOS like Valkyrie Profile 2 which need a Japanese version BIOS. (You can actually find one over the internet)
3. Open PCSX2 folder and click pcsx2-r5350.exe.
4. Click Next and Install.
5. Once a notification shows that the installation is finished you may close the installer.
6. You should be able to see a PCSX2 icon on your desktop. Click on it.
7. Choose the language that you prefer. And click Apply.
8. Click on Next. The setting on the graphics should be like this
GS-Gsdx 4600(MSVC 15.00.SSE2) 0.1.16 [gsdx-sse2r 4600]
PAD-LilyPad svn (r4510) 0.10.0 [Lilypad r-4600]
SPU2-SPU@-X r4600m 1.4.0 [spu2-x-r4600]
CDVD-cdvdGigaherz9(r45100) 0.8.0 [cdvdGigaherz]
USB-USBnull Driver 0.7.0 [USBnull]
FW- FWnull Driver 0.7.0 [FWnull]
DEV9-DEV9null Driver 0.5.0 [DEV9null]
Note: Sometimes the settings are already configured for your PC so it’s best not to touch it.
And make sure that your computer can handle the emulator and game cd, cause if not it will be pretty laggy and the gaming experience would suck. But as I promise I will guide you on how you can play PS2 games without those annoying slow frames.
9. Once the graphics are done, click next
10 This time it will ask you to search for the folder where you extract the Bios. Just check whether the folder location is correct. If not click Browse and search for it.
11. Choose the Version of Bios.
12. Once that is done, PCSX2 should be running.
Note: You can set the controls using the keyboard but it is not that easy to use. You can buy a controller that can be plugged in using a USB.
Configuring PCSX2 to work on most of the computer (this configuration is for God of War, Naruto Ultimate Ninja, Smackdown, Shadow of the Colossus etc. Remember that this type of setting might not work for others.
- Open your PCSX2
- Click Config, then click on Plugin Bios Selector
GS-The setting of the GS depends on your CPU. I will choose SSSE3. Click on configure. On the Rendered option click Direct 3d9 Hardware. And on the Interlacing F5 choose blend bff (slight blur, ½ fps) Click native.
Note: Clicking the native will minimize the laggy effect but it will also make the graphics a bit uglier.
3. Now for the Emulation Setting:
Go to Config And Click Emulation Setting
On EE/IOP menu you should be able to see Emotion Engine, IOP, Round mode and Clamping mode.
Choose recompiler for Emotionengine and for IOP
Chop/Zero for the Round mode and None for the Clamping mode.
On the VUs
Choose microVU recompiler for both VU0and VU1
Tick Chop/Zero for the Round mode and None for the Clamping mode.
On the Speedhacks Menu
Check on MTVU if you have a quadcore
If you are playing God of War or Shadow of the Colossus change it to 3 for other games leave it to 1. Click Apply
You should be able to play games without too much lag now. If you have any other question or this setting is not working for you leave a comment and I will try to do my best to guide you. Be sure to include all the right information on your comment. And enjoy the games!
