As a stout lover I never miss a chance to have a good stout, and even better this was given to me from someone who didn’t like the first couple that they had out of a four pack. I never turn down free beer or two for that matter so I said sure thing, I’ll take those off your hand. Only thing that scared me was it was in cans, I wondered how long it was in these cans.
For people wondering where Ten FIDY got its name its because it’s 10.5% alcohol, but don’t let that scare you off.
Ten FIDY pours as expected dark brown to black color that is expected out of a quality stout. The head rose to a dark brown coffee color of about a half inch in height. The head slowly dissipated to a thick film of lacing that was patch but always present.
Ten FIDY smell hit me and I knew this was a quality Stout all the usual suspects came out to play coffee/espresso, sweet caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, cream, mild bitter hops, and a dose of roasted malts.
Ten FIDY has a very heavy mouth feel also most like a milkshake or a malt. Ten FIDY at first taste is very sweet to a smooth creamy finish. Then you get the coffee/espresso to dark chocolate mixture with a touch of vanilla which is a very complex taste but oh so good.
Sometimes on these higher alcohol content beers you will get a taste of nothing other than the alcohol and a lot of times that ruins the taste of the beer. This is not the case here.
Ten FIDY is one of the best beer I have ever had without a doubt. This little beer packs a punch in flavor that is amazing. If I had to pick a beer off the top of my head that was this good, it would take some time and a lot of head scratching. I changed my mind this is the best beer that I have ever had period! What ever you do never turn down a free one of these!
