The Guild Leader Episode #10
Questions from the fans #1.
As this is episode #10 or technically episode #11 with the introduction to the series. I have decided to use a lot of the questions I get about The Guild Leader series and put them together to make up this episode. So I have to say thanks to all the readers and thanks for the questions.
#1. What game and when did I first become a Guild Leader?
That’s would be SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) created guild and would have become a guild leader in late 2003. Back then I didn’t have any idea what I was doing, but I was good at listening and asking for help from some of my great members. This was a great guild and a great group of people to play with.
#2. Do I currently lead a guild?
Yes I have a guild in Guild Wars 2. We have about 200 members not including alternate characters.
#3.What is the biggest challenge of a being a guild leader?
That’s a bit of a tough question to answer, but I would say the hardest thing to do sometimes is to listen to what people are actually saying. You have to remember you will have a mix of people from all over the world and you need to try to understand them all.
With a mix of people you will also have some head bumping going on. Sometime this is nothing more than lack of communication and sometime it just pure ego. This is a challenge to rein in these egos and keep the guild running tip top, but with a little work you will handle this no problem.
#4.What is the toughest thing I have encountered as a Guild Leader?
Well it happens, we just don’t want to think about too much. The hardest thing I have ever gone thru as a guild leader was the death of a guild member. We created a memorial to the player in game and spent the whole night as a guild just sitting around talking about all the good times we had together.
I still think about that person today, take care bud and we miss you!
#5.Why is that I never name a guild I was in or have ran?
Well like most people that like a bit of privacy, so I don’t want to bring any unwanted attention to my guilds or guild mates. That wouldn’t be a very good leader that did something like that to his/her members.
I don’t normally discuss that fact that I write a column about my guild experiences with my guild members at all, although a few members know I write, but just very close friends. If was going to name names I would have to put through a guild vote to get permission and that is something I don’t plan on doing anytime soon.
#6.What are my plans for upcoming Guild Leader episodes?
Well I plan to write more about selection officers, probably will get around to raid leadership, and I want to write a little more on ways to keep your guild moral high. I and more than willing to take any requests or suggestions.
I love writing the series and thanks so much for the questions. If you have any question please ask away below or send on the contact page. I do try to answer everything we receive personally and if the question is good I will write a whole episode on it.
