The Guild Leader Episode #31
A guild Leader needs a vacation too!
Over the course of this series we have talked about many issues that can plague a guild with problems to the point of collapse. So today I figured I would talk about another problem, which has happened to me as well.
Call it what you will Guild Leader Burn-out, I just call I need a break from this game for a while. This happens from time to time, it’s probably a good thing that it because it can act as a way to recharge your love for the game your playing by being away for a bit.
It doesn’t matter what game you play you will see this happen from time to time. Worst case scenario is the guild leader abandons the guild altogether with. I have seen this happen too, but not very common.
So the Guild Leader takes a break. What should we do?
Nothing play the game! You should already have a set of plans set in motion if you followed my series this far. You should have a 2nd in command that takes over without hesitation.
If there isn’t a 2nd in command I recommend have a guild carousel meeting to either place a 2nd in command or to rule the guild as a counsel by placing officer in various positions to keep the guild running until the Guild Leader returns.
If this is an extending time period that the Guild Leader is going to be gone, then the guild counsel should organize for new leadership before things go downhill.
Guild Leader Abandons the Guild.
The 2nd in command will take over the guild. If this person doesn’t want to lead then the guild counsel will organize the best possible way to place a new leader of the guild most likely a vote for new guild leader.
I have seen this happen once in a rival guild which resulted in us getting a large amount of their members moving to our guild as this all happened in front of us all.
Guild Leader Vacation.
This happens more than anything a guild leader deserves a few days off just like everyone else. When your guild leader is gone for a week or two nothing should really change in the guild.
You have put together a charter to handle things like this so don’t sweat it. Take your time off and have fun. When you organize a guild the right way it doesn’t matter who’s running the guild, you have taken the time to protect guild from things like this and from ruining what you have built.
Guild Leader is a weekly series by Beer and Joysticks .com and written by Chris Gillis covering all aspects of being a better guild leader. If you have any questions or comments we welcome them below this article.
