What a character biography should not have
I’ve played MMORPGs for over 3 years now. There have been good times and bad times, pleasant things and annoying things. Character biographies tend to be a pet peeve of mine. Why? Because I know someone is going to use it for the wrong reasons.
There are the role players who completely deck out their bios with cool stories, family history, etc. These are the biographies I want to read! Biographies should tell a story about your character. What ticks me off is when someone does one or all of the following:
1.The player decides to advertise their business in their character’s biography
This is not a marketing gimmick. Please stop doing crap like this.
Your raid buddies might care, but the rest of us do not. Use the bio page for the right reasons or I’ll pull out my Warden and show you some really devastating hits to knock some sense into you!
3. People give out their personal number and email asking anyone to contact them that is single and wanting a one night stand.
I’ve seen this, and it is sick. Please, just don’t…
4. People using the bio page to describe what they do when they go take a bio or what a bio entails…
Okay, actually that’s hilarious but please put a warning on the top for those sensitive people out there to be warned about what they’re about to read. If you don’t know what a bio break is, it means you’re going to go to the bathroom (at least in the games I’ve played it does).
5. Then there are the attempts to type a virus code into a biography page and thinking that it will infect other people’s computers when the biography is read.
I’m sorry, but it seriously doesn’t work like that. You need a book on how not to be a moron if you even think that viruses are funny in the first place. Second, you need to be slapped upside the head by a tech guru because even I as a technology challenged person know that viruses don’t work that way.
I only want to see a character biography if there is a STORY about the character in there somewhere. It’s probably a long shot but I can dream, can’t I?
